Hurricane Survival Guide

12 Steps to a hurricane evacuation vacation= a hurrication.

1.  Notice yourself in the extreme threat zone of a big fat hurricane. (after your friend across the country calls and ask you about it.  Before this....you have no knowlege of the hurricane because you don't have cable and haven't read the news in about 3 days.)
2. Wonder if the big trees behind you will fall on your house or if the lake behind your house will pay you a visit inside your house.
3.  Realize you don't want to be around to find out the answer to either of those questions.
4.  Book a suite in Charlottesville so you have room for your kids to play while your baby sleeps.
5.  Realize Marriott messed up your reservation and find a new hotel room 60 miles west of Charlottesville in Lexington, Va.
6.  Batten down the hatches before you leave.
7.  Drive 5 1/2 hours west to MOUNTAINS.  Enjoy the amazing views.
8. Check into your adjoining rooms so your kids can jump on beds and you can watch the weather channel until your eyes go fuzzy.
9. Check out the local Natural Bridge.  55 feet higher than Niagara Falls.  Once owned by Thomas Jefferson.  George Washington's initials carved into one of the rock walls from his surveying days before he was a general and United States President.  Enjoy the hike 137 steps down and enjoy watching your son bounce 137 steps back up.  An amazing human he is.
10.  At the Natural Bridge also see the butterfly garden, toy museum and wax museum.  Decide against visiting the caverns since it feels like 34 degrees underground and we were all clad in our summer best not suitable for a chilly 45 minute underground tour.
11.  Enjoy family lunch at Applebees, family outing to the local WalMart where we picked up Angry Birds the board game which Andrew has been playing ever since.
12.  See the blue sky Sunday morning and drive home on clear roads.  All along the way- thankful to workers who cleared the fallen trees off the roads and restored our electricity in our house.  Vow to visit the amazing mountains of western Virginia again.

Pictures do this place no justice- it is a must see if you're in the area.

This one is especially for Hayley- look at Scott's face.

Emma, Andrew, Peach and Tails.  Can't go anywhere without our Mario or Sonic people.

This one is for you, Kim.

So much Angry Birds.  So little time.

Aww, I never had one of those but I should have. Just watched the cartoon. Glad you guys left, I wouldn't want to stick around for that either.

Glad everything turned out well and that your house is still standing. We could sure use some rain and cool weather here.

JEM?!? I haven't thought about some of those toys in a long, long time. Delighted to hear that Hillary is moving in with you and that you made it through the hurricane!

I can't tell you how excited I am to come spend some time with you guys. Scott doesn't even look like the same baby! He looks like emma when he's not smiling and then like Andrew when he has a big grin on his face. I love your family.
